A vacation must have - packing cubes!

Hi friends!

I am SO excited to tell you about today’s post.

I love when other people find good things on Amazon and share them, so that’s what today is all about. You guys, these packing cubes are LIFE CHANGING!

How can I make such a bold statement? Well let me show you.

We were about to travel across the country with a 10 month old, for a week. That’s an entire different topic for a different day. But because of the situation I didn’t want to take a million bags.

I decided we would take one suitcase, one carry on, and her book bag (diaper bag) - that’s it.

So, with all the clothes, shoes, bathroom items, miscellaneous items AND baby items we needed, that was going to be a bit of a challenge. Until I discovered the packing cubes!

5 cubes (2 big, 2 medium and 1 small) come in 1 pack and they come in a variety of colors. Here are the cubes and the suitcase we took. It’s an average size, not huge.

If you’ve never used a packing cube, this is about to blow your mind! Ready?

Look at my 6 sweatshirts stacked here…

Now, here they are in the packing cube.

Wow! Talk about saving space in your suitcase.

Now I didn’t actually take 6 sweatshirts on vacation and I would have packed them a little more even so the cube is straight/flat, but I just wanted to give you an idea of how it worked. Here’s a real life example of what we packed for a week in one medium cube.

  • 8 t-shirts

  • 2 nice shirts

  • 2 pairs of shorts

  • 1 sweatshirt

  • underwear and socks

I wish I would have taken a side angle shot so you could see them stacked up, but you get the idea.

And here they are in the medium cube.

Now, besides saving space, here’s my absolute favorite part - each family member had one cube for all of their clothes for the entire week.

When we arrived at the destination, each person had one little cube that had every item they needed.

Here’s a few more tips for using the packing cubes:

  1. I put an extra outfit for each of us in the small packing cube and put it in my carry on bag just in case our suitcase got lost!

  2. If you’d rather use the packing cubes to pack by days, you could put one outfit for each person in one cube for Monday, then Tuesday, etc. That way you’re just getting out one cube per day (or few days).

  3. You know the KonMari method of folding that’s been circling the internet? I used that method to fold all of our clothes and that helped tremendously!

Then it was super easy to stack everything in the suitcase.

  • 1 cube for each member of the family (3)

  • diapers

  • bathroom items

  • shoes, hats and a book

When we arrived everything was neatly folded and ready to go.

Here’s one more great thing about the cubes. Because everything is neatly folded and zipped in place, nothing gets shifted around, so none of our clothes were wrinkled!

Why would you not want to use these?
